Cyberscribes Feb ATC's Circles & Squares/Use it or Lose it!

NYR- Use it or lose it.
Stamps I haven't used in years, can't even remember where or why I got them must go. ( good time to visit if you want to build your collection)
If something comes into my studio- something must go out!

Take no prisoners!

I was uninspired by this months Cyberscribes ATC theme.

Then I found myself faced with my collection of Quietfire Design, Design Element Stamps.
These are some of my fav stamps. When was the last time I used them?

Squares!

I didn't have any ideas, so I just got out all the stamps and started what I call "Trials and Tribulations"(T&T)

 I settled on this

Lots of stuff went right and wrong along the way. I say I don't do grunge and this card is def grunge- ink where it shouldn't be, pen fails, upside down stamping. Something for everyone! and  plenty of embrace imperfection practice.

I began by edging the cards with a gold pen. I use a card to make straight edges, usually, and this pen had other ideas.
The flourished heart tile stamp  was colored with brush markers and ink and stamped.

Then I got out my stamp press (long blog post coming on this when I have the end of my story with Fiscars ) and set the other three tiles on the removable plate, inked them and stamped.

Remember I have to make 10.

Then I placed four small pieces of post it notes over the corner stamps as masks, placed the circle background stamp on another plate and stamped.

The press is great for this as you can position your paper under the press before you press down, make multiples and over stamp,

I'm glad I hung in there with these and glad to send them off!

The Origin of Love

This 12" knitted square is going to PA to join with others of it's kind to create a prayer shawl to celebrate the wedding of my dear friend Lola, and her beloved Liv.

I've been creating  textiles as conduits for prayer for as long as I can remember and been a member of this Prayer shawl ministry in Media for many years, even tho I now live 600 miles south and west.

The card reads,

Ryuho Okawa

I chose lavender for the square as I see Lola in healing light, that she is, that she gives and that she receives.

Check back later to see the finished shawl !

Joy to all!

Give and Ye Shall Receive

Children and Friends, a non profit daycare and enrichment center in Black Mountain NC, creates a loving, safe, caring environment for our most precious souls, aged infant to 5.

Many of the families served are single Moms, working for less than a living wage.

The wonderful staff also work for way less than I wish they did.

Our community supports them as we can, and I heard they needed washable covers for the sleeping mats.
I put the word out to the Fiber Art Alliance group and got a car full of wonderful fabrics and with a bit of time at the machine cranked out a pile of soft, comfy mats.

I know I get back more than I give when I find the time to do projects like this one.
I hope you will join me.
There is need in your community that your art can fill.

Questions and comments always welcomed.

Quietfire Queen of Hearts Challenge 2013

Look out, here comes some free advice.
Always make a sample/dummy, when you try something new.

The photo , right, shows some of my experiments.

Starting with an old file folder, I cut with the heart die just above the fold to get a heart shaped card.

Position the small heart to reveal the sentiment inside the card. Use your stamp positioner for good placement.

The Love you was stamped with  Distress ink, Worn Lipstick and thermal embossed with a transparent pearlized powder. I wish you could see this in person.

Have I told you was stamped in Versafine Sepia and thermal embossed clear.

I embossed with a folder and rubber mallet ( Shout Out to  Yogi) just where I wanted it.

Painted the hearts with Twinkling H2O's, and Stardust pen for the dots.

I cut a frame using 2 heart dies- they didn't nest, so I cut the larger one first and then cut out the center- the same die I used to cut the shape out of the card front.

Glitter Ritz added the bling-Regal Red, Warm Highlights and Stardust.

Just for fun and vintage goodness I added a die cut doily to the back.

I'm enjoying  seeing the love you are creating for V-day and the Challenge, so keep them coming!
