Holiday Handmade

It's that most wonderful time of the year when I wonder what my handmade ornament will be for this year.
We say we do "no presents" in my family and ornaments make a great no present.

I saw these stars on a yarn web site, the pattern was typical knitter code, so I made a sample in the orange yarn that seems to grow in my yarn bins.

I messed about till I got a star I was happy with and a pattern I could use to teach from.
Not very christmassy.
Leslie is creating Felted Witches Hats in the Nice Threads Studio
and with my timeline, this was as close as I was going to get for making one for this year.

These Light Beings are going to look spectacular
and sparkly on your tree.
If you're not on my list, come on by and let me
teach you how to make one
and...
as an added bonus learn how to write the pattern so it makes sense to you and you can modify it if you like.

WARNING:
Creating even one of these ornaments is habit forming!

Once I started making these ornaments with the new stamps, I couldn't stop.
The first one I made I used the Peace on Earth stamp and punched out 8 pieces.
 Fold each piece before
you do your surface design.
I used a scoring board. I colored the paper before I punched on this one-lots of Distress Ink , stains and thermal embossed with Versamark and Ranger Superfine Gold Embossing powder.

For all fine line stamps I highly recommend Versafine inks and Ranger superfine embossing powder, to get these results.

Below are some assembly shots-I used some Ranger glue stick and some quick dry wet glue.
After creativity, glue might be the most important element in success with paper.

Fold each piece and glue one side to another and glue the last piece to both sides.
It's easier than it sounds.
The snow was created with a puffy pen and I added a gold hanger and beads.
There is enough of a hole in the middle to pass a long needle through with your hanger.

The rest are made with Spellbinders dies.

This was an Ornament die with O Little Town Stamp.
I thermal embossed with Versafine Crimson and Deep Lagoon.

The background was added after cutting out the shapes and is an all over snowflake design with Stormy Night Distress

Above Spellbinders 2010 Holiday Tree and Peace on Earth . Thermal embossed with Versamark and Ranger green embossing tinsel.

Below, Spellbinders Dahlia and one of my new faves the Flourished Tree and Joy
I was going for
vintage here. No  embossing.I only used 3 sections as I wanted to see more of the stamp and less folds.

Spellbinders Lacy Squares and Flourish Noel-themal embossed Versafine Deep Lagoon, Brilliance Gold and Platinum pad to paper and hand embossed star with a rubber mallet and Cuttlebug folder-***shout out to Yogi****

Added some gold to the edges and a lacy hanger .
A new shape, all the lovely stamps, a stash full of embellishments- the possibilities are endless. Please post your own creations on the Quietfire FB page. I'd Love to see them.

So leave a comment and in addition to the drawing for a grab bag of QF rubber one other lucky commenter will receive the ornament of their choice-Sorry- the green snowy tree is already spoken for!

Comments and questions always welcome.

Now hop over to Holly and she what inspiration she has ready for you! And you can still go back and visit the blogs you missed . You have till Friday night to leave comments.

Thanks for visiting and good luck with the prizes!

Sneak Peak and Technique Tip

The October T!m 12Tags showed coloring the Distress Glitter with Alcohol Ink.
I got to thinking, how about custom coloring embossing powder?
I mixed some clear embossings powder(it's a polymer ) with a few drops of alcohol ink, and yes! it works.
Same technique as on T!m's blog. and here are the results in Sneak Peak form.

Blessings is colored with Cranberry

And this AMAZING Tree with Lettuce

Be sure to visit each designers blog this week in the Quietfire Christmas Blog Hop to see a lot more of these fab new stamps!

Your first stop tomorrow will be Yogi

Come back and see me on Tuesday.
