WOYWW 405 - Going Green! Heart Expansion!

On the right-can you make out the pile of new stencils by Suzanne Cannon
for Elizabeth Craft Designs!
You can find out more about the St Patty's Day Explosion Box box and so lucky ATC's
Here at Quietfire Digital Blog.
Lots of green, on my desk, in the garden and in my heart!

I want to share with you, dear deskers- the healing power of love and creativity.
A year ago, I met a 5 year old child ( and his siblings), experiencing abuse, and neglect, beyond what you can want to imagine.
He had almost no speaking or social skills.
He was allowed to come to art time with me,yet he could hardly participate as he couldn't use a scissors, paint, glue, or other supplies, with any control or focus long enough to do anything.

Monday, during homework time- that comes right before art time, he read me a story- 8 pages long! with feeling!
And we can have conversations! He can tell me what he wants, how he is feeling!
**Just that he is willing to feel!**

I wish you could see his eyes when he looked at me while reading when he needed help with a word.
**He trusted me enough to risk asking me for help.**
Then, in art time- where I have 12 children, ages 4-12- all levels of ability,
he sat at his place- with two cups of water, scissors, glue and paint, and painted a rainbow for me.
(I'm simplifying and leaving out quite a bit of happy mess)
In fact all of the children now sit and create with me.
My heart grew at least double.

So I hope this made you smile- I'm still smiling!
Thanks for visiting and welcoming me to your place!

Thank you for sharing such an amazing story. This proves how much children need someone to care about them, do things with them and have patience with them. Happy WOYWW Sarah #29

Hi Robyn, my Mum used to do the same kind of work with kids, and whilst heartbreaking- if kept in balance it is rewarding too. As he chld I never heard the words 'Don't make a Mess'

i only heard - wow what fab colours and you did the table as well as the paper - i'd not thought of doing that....!" Hence I say it is my Moms fault that I can tolerate a very chaotic workspace!!!!

keep up the good work. Dx #32

I look forward to seeing what you do with your new stash. Lovely to hear about the boy you have been helping. My nephew is autisic and didn't talk until he was nearly 4, couldn't articulate himself and was a ball of pure rage. As soon as he was put in the right class, at the right school, with the right teachers and helping staff who genuinely care for him, he has come completely out of his shell, and while he has his moments, is a very polite little boy, mostly willing to participate and have a go. Art helped him massively, because there is no wrong or right. Thanks for sharing and have a great week - EmbroidRage #5 x

It's amazing what therapy can be gained through art or crafts. I am hoping it can help my grandson come to terms with losing his father (my son) when he attends bereavement counselling. #2
